Road Trip!

Tomorrow night (well, the wee hours of Saturday, actually) we leave for the happiest place on earth. I don't agree with that moniker, because there are about a zillion other places that make me happier. I remember being disillusioned with Disneyland way back when I was 6 or 7, because even though it was really fun to go to, we still had to walk in the heat and I didn't get all the souveniers I asked for and there were long lines. (Plus I was never that fond of pink, and princesses, etc. My favorite area of the park was always Adventureland, and I would dream about taking a vacation to a real tropical forest instead of just the Tiki Room. Although I did love the Tiki Room song). Anyway- I am looking forward to this weekend, though, because it will be spent with good friends (who are also very fun people). My baby brother may even join us for the day! And a couple of those good friends dearly love Disneyland, so it will be fun watching them have such a good time.
How do you feel about Disneyland? Why do you like it, or tolerate it, or loathe it (or anything on that spectrum)?

Yay for Disneyland!! Always loved it, always will!

But, now that I have a kid (who as you say, is being "brainwashed" to love it too!), I enjoy it in a different way...

I still vote for Small World as my all-time favorite...ride it for me okay? :)

Ack! DON'T get that song in my head! That's the one ride that I absolutely refuse to go on. Otherwise I will be singing that ditty from now till December. :-P

But that's the great fun of that song...You get to re-live the experience over, and over, and... :)
Did I mention that it's the ringtone on my cell phone? :)

Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom! I always enjoyed going there. I still have some of those old A thru E tickets we used years ago when admission was $1.50 or so and then you paid for your rides with purchased tickets. As the years went by, they added things like Pirates of the Caribbean and Bear Country and now Bear Country has gone the way of all bears in the Los Angeles area (except at the L.A. Zoo). We enjoyed the Journey to Mars that was next to the GE Carousel of Progress that became America Sings and I don't know what it is now. I heard the submarine is now open, newly refurbished. I remember what a big deal it was when it opened as an added attraction the first time. Yes, a magic kingdom of fun and memories. Of course I'm always accused of remembering only the good things, but I like it that way! One of my favorite things about Disneyland was the Bell Telephone sponsored "America the Beautiful" that was nothing more than rows of rails that one held as they darkened the lights and showed movies on something like 20 screens surrounding you with scenes from all over America. I was always emotionally sappy about those cattle crossing the road and seemingly going to knock me over and I felt dizzy when the helicopter with the surround cameras mounted on top tipped and turned in the Grand Canyon or some other spectacular American icon of scenery. Then there was the new Gold Mine (or something like that) ride and of course the old Jungle Cruise in Adventureland. Well that brings us back to the beloved Tiki House and the Pirates so I'd best stop the chatter and let you get on with life in 2007!
